B.SC. (APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY)

The B.Sc. (Applied Psychology) degree offers students to major in Psychology with a minor in Education.

The Department of Psychology at the Jyoti Dalal School of Liberal Arts (JDSOLA), NMIMS introduced the program in 2020. The department distinguishes itself through a holistic approach to student development, prioritizing practical application, experiential learning, and a focus on research over traditional classroom learning.  The programme is designed to provide students with a comprehensive and rigorous foundation in Psychology, preparing them effectively for advanced postgraduate studies and professional pathways in the discipline.

The major subjects focus on several areas including Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Industrial & Organisational Psychology, Sports Psychology, School & Educational Psychology, Addiction Psychology, Neuropsychology, Social Psychology and Criminal Psychology.  

The curriculum encompasses diverse domains of Psychology and emphasizes not only a theoretical understanding of psychological phenomena but also their real-world application. Additionally, students benefit from sustained interaction with experienced practitioners, and subject-matter experts, fostering meaningful academic and professional engagement.

4-years- 8 Semesters (Exit option as per NEP 2020 guidelines)

Program Objectives:

  • To ensure students grasp the fundamental theories and concepts of Psychology, including cognitive, developmental, social, clinical, forensic and organizational Psychology.
  • To equip students with the necessary tools and techniques to conduct empirical research in Psychology.
  • To teach students how to apply psychological principles and research findings to address real-world problems in diverse settings such as education, healthcare, business, and community organizations.
  • To cultivate critical thinking skills so that students can evaluate psychological theories, research studies, and practical interventions with a critical eye.
  • To instil an understanding of ethical principles and professional standards in Psychology.
  • To develop effective written and oral communication skills that enable students to convey complex psychological concepts and research findings to diverse audiences.
  • To provide opportunities for hands-on learning through internships, practicum placements, or research assistantships where students can apply their knowledge and skills in real-world settings under the supervision of professionals.

Admission Requirement

  1. Online Registration: Candidates must complete the application at the official university portal.
  2. Entrance Test: Appear for the NMIMS written test covering English Language, General Awareness, Reasoning Skills, Social Awareness, Basics of Psychology.
  3. Final Selection: The selection will be solely based on merit. In this regard, the decision of the NMIMS will be final and undisputable as shall be binding on all concerned
